5 Tips for Old Skaters
Aug 072008

Since this site is so brand new I have a lot of plans for getting the site up and established in 2008.

1. Own the "Blogging Dads That Skateboard" - I think I am the only one so that should be easy!

2. Post at least one video tutorial a month - I am planning on having how tos for trick tips and building skate ramps etc.

3. Post at least once every other day - Once a day is going to be a bit of a stretch for me.

4. Interview Tony Hawk, Chris Miller, and Steve Caballero - All dads that skate.

5. Get a better theme - This is a placeholder for "learn how to customize a WP theme.

Came across this via the PB writing project. Just wanted to say that I think this is an awesome idea! Since becoming a parent, though I no longer skate, it seems that there’s a stigma attached to the sport, fashion, lifestyle – however you wanna assign it. There’s so few public-eye skaters who are also parents. Kudos!

Thanks Terra! I should easily rule the Dad’s that skate niche! ;-)

I’m not a dad–nor do I have the potential to be one, since I’m a woman. But I have always wanted to learn how to skate. I’m now thinking that I have to set up my blogging goals for 2008. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Bill,

Those seem like solid goals for 2008. Good luck!

  5. This is a FANTASTIC idea for a blog. Very original and timely. I have a feeling that things are going to take off for you in the new year. Good luck and good times in 2008!!!

Hey Sk8 dad! I’m a sk8 dad myself, and ran across this site while looking for other sk8 dad’s on the internet. I skated for many years between the 80’s and 90’s, but stopped when I got married. My kids are old enough to skate now, so I bought a board and started skating again. Don’t know why I ever stopped!
I hope your 2008 plans are working out. Looking forward to hearing more in your blog.

Hey – great idea! There are a lot of dads out there that used to skate, or want to learn with their kids. Including me. Never skated as a kid, started with my son.

Good luck with your site, Cole

I am a 51 y/o and my son lives to skate. So I joined him. When I was younger I skated, but that was back when we made our own boards with the metal skates. We live upstate NY and on Sundays go down to the NYC Brooklyn Banks, Coleman skate park, or we just ride around and find spots. I am nowhere as good as he is, but I try. Skateboarding has created a way to bond with him. It’s great and I get the whole skateboarding thing.

its been awhile since anyone has posted..im 38 y/o dad..my son is 6 and has been skating since he was around 4. I usued to sk8 years ago for fun and transportation. My kids gave me an old school board (powell ripper reissue) for xmas 2 years ago and the feeling came right back! Its cool to get respect from the other kids at the parks cuz after all, its not how well you skate…just that you skate!! lets keep this site going guys!!(and girls)

um….I’m guessing something happened to this blog. Maybe he’s just busy with two kids and trying to skate. As more and more of us get older and have kids this catagory of skate dad will grow and grow. Our fathers didn’t skate so this in a way is new territory. Like for instance, try flipping through a thrasher with your two boys on either side of you and run into a hookups add……or all the language and references to beer, weed, guns and girls….Skate dads have a ton of challenges, but the payoff of being able to skate with your sons and daughters is huge. Having a miniramp in the back yard is key and will help eleviate the pressure of making park sessions so intense.
